Press releases help to celebrate the active involvement of Children and young people with the public.

The MDO Newsletter, Museum Network, X-Domain Network and SAMS newsletter all help to share success with other professionals.

Children and young people are celebrated during the annual Open Art exhibition, where their work is displayed in the Gallery and awards are presented. They are also invited to attend the private view.

The ‘Urban Places: Open Spaces’ exhibition at the Shire Hall Gallery was entirely composed of work by 11-14 year olds.

The work of children and young people visiting exhibitions is displayed on the walls of the Shire Hall Gallery and also on the Children’s Zone section of the website. An animation created during a drop-in workshop with Mike Futcher was shown on the Gallery’s AV screen.

Schools generated content is included on the Past Track and SLN websites.

Videos, CDs and websites created with/by children and young people during Arts Development projects are published and shared with the public. (Sonic, Border Moves, etc.) A CD produced by young people during the Sonic dB project received radio play on Tim Westwood’s Radio 1 show.

Consultation with young people – findings written up in to a Report. Updates were provided in SAMS newsletter, Participation Newsletter etc.

Evidence:

Youth Participation Officer keeps detailed records of involvement. RBKC becoming recognised through regional and national networks for young people’s active involvement. Accreditation of achievements is continuous with regular certification of young people’s participation (in house and DoE). Ten Youth Forum members took part in the Save the Children Peer Education and Global Youth Work course gaining a GCSE in the subject. Moreover, the YSDS Youth Forum won the RBKC Apollo Award 2003 and 2005 representing a community wide recognition of the Youth Forum’s outstanding contribution to the Borough. Additionally, representatives for RBKC to the UK Youth Parliament and Connexions Board have also received recognition for their participation in Borough wide projects as representatives of their constituents. Key staff members in all Business Groups have been identified to report on and assist youth involvement. The Social Services have also created an awards scheme called ‘Celebrating Achievements’ which aims to praise and celebrate the achievement of looked after young people from educational success to taking control of their own lives and developing a positive attitude. The Youth Forum has pushed ahead with achieving their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award, with nine members successfully completing their Awards.

Activities are being recorded through newsletters, including the ST 14-19 newspaper from the schools, the Children and Young People’s Alliancenewsletter, the Youth Service newsletter, Team Talk and On View. In addition to this young people’s achievements have been recorded through the local newspapers. The launch of Performing Together 2005 will include video footage of young people discussing their involvement in the interview for the Director of Children’s Services.

A young person’s website is being developed by young people and will include good news stories celebrating their involvement.

The Cave is developing radio broadcasting which will be used by young people to share their experiences.

YWCA takes on Hear by Right to agree participation priorities

In late August at Warwick University, 25 young women and support staff from 12 YWCA centres used the Hear by Right standards framework to agree their participation priorities locally and across the organisation.

Woodraft Folk TREE steering group records and celebrates participation

In January 2010, 10 children and young people from the national Steering Group of Woodcraft Folk's BIG Lottery funded TREE programme met to review progress and plan ahead They had a busy, action packed two day residential in Birmingham.
