Our magazine is based around the principles of the CRC, particularly those statements around free speech and participation. The CRC, plus the particular aspects related to VOXX, are in our organisational folder.

The Board adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child , including the two Articles that Government at that time had exemptions on

NYAS seeks to provide and develop its services through the active participation of young people, who are involved at all levels of the organisation.

Every Child Matters information is informed and influenced by this act and is included in the Cumbria Contract for young people and children (Pledge)

A Commitment to the Rights of the Child is included in the Audience Development Policy.
Children are given the opportunity to express their views through feedback and evaluation forms developed for them and general visitor surveys and comments cards.
This commitment informed the consultation with young people on the kinds of exhibitions that they would like at Shire Hall Gallery.

Youth work in Cumbria involved young people from Barrow in the development of a survey that included a quote from Article 12.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Champion for Young People, Councillor Mary Weale, has actively campaigned for the adoption of the UNCRC convention on the Rights of the Child and has been successful. The Key decision report has adopted UNCRC with particular reference to articles12, 13 and 23.

Article 12 is currently recognised by the EYP Team only. It will form the basis for the company’s overall commitment.

Through the Youth Empowerment Strategy the Council has adopted the UNCRC Article 12, which recognises that children and young people have a central role in decision-making within the organisation.

The Youth Empowerment Strategy will be agreed by Council in June and will become Council policy on the participation of children and young people in key decision-making.

The involvement of children and young people will be included in the Corporate Policy Framework and form part of an impact assessment for Equality and Diversity.

• This is limited to specific projects such as LYTE and the Children’s Panel, and possible school councils.
• There is no overall mechanism to encourage services to involve children and young people to define their own objectives.

· With regard to youth forum related matters young people are given as much information as possible so that they can make their own decisions and therefore work within their own personal boundaries.

· Youth forum constitution was developed with young people, within this constitution it states that young people chair the meeting and are responsible for agreeing the invitation of guests.

Following a half-day workshop in February 2002, which involved the leader, Portfolio holders, Cabinet members and young people. The purpose of involving young people was discussed and supportive structures agreed.
