Young people in the Furness Childrens home take part in residents meetings with young people writing minutes and agendas and leading the meetings. This also happens at Hart street Short breaks, however is less formalised. Y/p at the home and within pathways and CLA team are involved in writing their Personal Education Plans and making decision about how it is developed young people are involved in reviews of reward schemes and their implementation and have the chance to have their say and make suggestions.
At the Childrens home young people have visits from NYAS workers and visits from advocacy workers are encouraged and promoted by the staff and manager. The use of NYAS is also promoted in Pathways and other Social Care teams in Furness as well as Independent reviewing Officers
Young people voices; views and feelings are captured at the Regulation 33 Biannual meetings for the Childrens Home in written form through Grumbles books and Compliments/complaints procedures. There is an agenda item for y/p feedback.
Young people in Furness attend action4 Children in Care Council meetings to share their views. Young people decide who chairs the meetings, who attends and agree on the agenda and format of the meetings. Young people take a strong lead in Furness action4’s development and this is captured in the minutes. Local Schools also have School Council meetings where y/p involvement is central.

The County Council has signed up to using the Hear by Right standards to engage with young adults and through “Partners for Change” the Library Service will be incorporating these standards and practices in policy and planning documents for Children and Young People’s Services.

Children’s views of service regularly gathered through Children’s PLUS and findings incorporated into planning.

Projects to actively involve young people in planning facilities, stock selection and removing barriers to use being undertaken at two sites. Reservation charges and fines have been removed for all borrowers under 18 years old and a card for children and young adults introduced.

The mission statement makes a very clear commitment to the involvement of children and young people. Listening to young people is a key element of the Community and Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy. The adoption of a Youth Empowerment Strategy is central to that commitment.

The Consultation and Involvement of Children and Young People sub group is the most pro active and reports directly to the Commissioning Board.
